YouTube and my dreams
Uni with caviar, sashimi, mini tacos, Opus One red wine from 2017, cognac, heaping piles of shrimp cocktail, little pork or beef medallions, lobster tails, lobster or shrimp or crab rolls, sushi, oysters.
And fruit. So much fruit. Deep and wide aluminum dishes of peaches, grapes, watermelon, cherries. Cherries! In this economy!
The food and drink – and much more – was documented in a video from the Aug. 8, 2021 fundraiser for then-candidate Eric Adams. Last year his team told us the fundraiser didn’t cost more than $500 – which would trigger a whole slew of other Campaign Finance Board documentation and filings.
Why they filmed the entire thing and uploaded it to YouTube, we may never know. (They did delete it after our story.) But thankfully my colleague Alyssa found it, complete with the now-mayor’s speech thanking them for support and asking for more money.
The mayor’s team said there was another party at the lavish Long Island mansion before the mayor came, despite the obvious setting up for the party and huge sign for his election. Either way, with matching funds, the donations connected to that party reaped tens of thousands of dollars in public money for the mayor, who would sail to. victory in November. It must have been all those cherries.
