Also, Astoria Pool has reopened.
The council and the mayor shook hands on a budget on Friday, doing their ceremony just hours ago at City Hall.
The top notes from a quick glance: libraries and cultural institutions and parks got some money back, so there can be seven day library service and programs and more cleaners at parks. There’s money for a new trauma center in Rockaway. And the reserves are up.
This deal comes after tension both sides won’t really publicly admit to, and a year of vetoes and overridden vetoes between the mayor and the council. The mayor insisted the team would “land the plane” and on Friday he even brought a model airplane.
The council will vote Sunday on the new budget. Here’s my take on it, and a few other takes:
💰The library funding is restored [GOTHAMIST/WNYC]
💰The budget also increases Fair Fares eligibility [amNY]
💰Full council release on the budget [NYCC]
